Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny
For lovers of Chambolle-Musigny, the name Ghislaine Barthod’s occupies a special place in our hearts. This Domaine originates with Marcel Noellat, whose daughter married Gaston Barthod. His daughter, Ghislaine, and her partner Louis Boillot bought their current premises overlooking premier cru Les Feusselottes in 1986.
Though they share the same team that works on their vineyards. the commercial aspect is kept separate. Their son, Clément has taken on the management of both domaine. Grapes from this domain are destalked, allowed a cool soak, then fermented with more punching down than pumping over. Barrel maturation does not rely on new oak, with less than 30% for the 1er Cru.
The strength of Ghislaine Barthod is the range of Chambolle wines, with up to 11 1er Cru bottlings, each displaying their idiosyncracies of its particular terroir. This motherly figure produces some of the most comforting wines in burgundy. Wines that you want to share with just a handful of fellow burgundy lovers because its so evocative.
